International schools in Berlin

Berlin has many foreign companies so the city also has a wide range of international schools for the children of foreign nationals working here.

The largest is the German-American John F. Kennedy School with more than 1,700 students.

More than 30 elementary and secondary schools have started bilingual classes under the umbrella name of “Staatliche Europa-Schule Berlin” (SESB).

Beginning with first grade, 50 percent of the instruction is in German, 50 percent in the partner language. To gain admission, the partner language, the student must be fluent in the partner language.

Staatliche Europa Schulen (SESB)  
Overseen by the Staat­liche Europa Schulen Berlin (SESB) organization, 18 primary schools and 15 continuing education establishments have set up bilingual classes. Beginning aged six, half of the instruction is in German, half in the partner lan­­guage. These schools currently offer English, French, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, Greek, Portuguese and Polish.

Berlin Brandenburg International School (BBIS)  
State-approved English-speaking private school and all-day school for children and teenagers aged 3 to 19. The curriculum follows the four programs of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. Freie Schule Anne-Sophie Berlin  
This bilingual all-day school in Zehlendorf consists of an entrance class, elementary school (grades 1-6) and a high school (grades 7-12). Instruction at the state-recognized alternative school takes place in equal parts in German and English. Another focus is on teaching responsible and creative use of digital media. Internationale Schule Berlin  
Bilingual (English-German) primary and secondary school oriented toward the Berliner Rahmenlehrplan. Children are exposed to English on a continually increasing basis, up to entire subjects being taught in English by native speakers. IMS Internationale Montessori­schule Berlin  
Children have lessons in mixed age groups at this bilingual (German/English) Montessori primary school. This means Years 1 and 2; 3 and 4; and 5 and 6 are taught in age-appropriate groups. This is an all-day school with lessons from 9 am to 4 pm. On request, pupils can be supervised from 7.30 am to 6 pm.

Moser Schule  
This academic high school with a multilingual orientation follows the approach of its mother school in Switzerland. Along with multilingualism in German, English and French, students are educated to be tolerant and open to the world through an exchange program. All-day supervision for grades 5-12. Moser Schule pupils study to achieve the Abitur certificate and AbiBac (Abitur plus the French Baccalauréat) after 12th grade.
